Releasing Your Hidden Potential

Genesis 1: 26 - 28, Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." NKJV

In 2 Corinthians 4:7, Paul tells us that we have treasure from heaven in this earthen vessel. This treasure that Paul writes about holds your hidden potential. However, we have to be willing to release it in order to fulfill God's plan and purpose for our lives.

God formed man from the dust of the ground, and afterwards, He commanded a blessing over Adam and Eve. He told them to be fruitful, multiply, and to fill the earth. Please take hold of the commandment of God over Adam and Eve. He wanted THEM to FILL the earth. Even so, you may be wondering how one couple could possibly fill the earth. Before the fall, there was no death; consequently, it was possible for Adam and Eve to have filled the earth as God commanded. When we live for eternity, we can get a whole lot of things accomplished for God in the earth.

Now let's focus on the purpose of today's word. Adam and Eve had the potential within themselves to fill the entire earth; nonetheless, they chose to fill only themselves. Instead of them remaining in fellowship with the Lord and walking in God's abundant blessings, they chose to take care of their own selfish desires; and as a result, they lost their ability to fill the earth.

God has given us the story of Adam as an example so that we don't follow in his footsteps. Although God gave Adam and Eve the power to fill the earth, they chose to satisfy themselves by excluding God's will and plan for their lives. Nevertheless, God sent Jesus into the earth as the Last Adam; we know that He has descended and ascended in ordert that He might fill all things with Himself (Ephesians 4: 10).

Unlike Adam, who chose to allow sin to separate him from God (Tree of Life), Jesus always chose to obey the Father and to walk under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, when Jesus finished the work that His heavenly Father had given Him, He ascended into heaven; and the Holy Spirit was sent to live in us. Now, we are filled with God's presence, and, as a result, we can fill the earth with God's goodness through our continued obedience. However, the only way a Christian can continue to be FILLED and walk in God's blessings is to remain in God's presence. The Bible tells us, "In His presence is fullness of joy." Jesus tells us in Matthew 5: 6 that we are blessed, if we hunger and thirst... for we shall be filled.

As a child of God, are you setting time aside to be in the presence of the Lord? When you delight yourself in God, He has promised to give you the desires of your heart. God is life; and when you dwell in His presence, His life fills you and spills over into this natural realm. If you continue to live in His presence, you are going to become all that God has ordained for you to be.

Living in God's Presence,
