1 Chronicles 16: 8 – 12, Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore! Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth… NKJV
Let me be one of the first to say, “Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!”
I chose this particular scripture to commemorate this special day because it is very upbeat and joyful. The writer encourages us to lavish our thanksgiving, adoration, and love upon the Lord while making melody in our hearts for the great things that He has done for us.
It was the Lord, who designed the plan of redemption and offered His Son in our place so that we could know God and have eternal life. Imagine that! God has given us all of eternity to express to Him how grateful we are that He has saved us from our sins. He has bestowed to us every good and perfect gift so that we might live the abundant life in Christ. We DON’T have to go to the world for an unmet need. Everything we will ever need is ours through Jesus.
Therefore, we have every right to rejoice and to be exceedingly glad because we have the BEST of this life and the one to come. It blesses our heavenly Father when we get excited and declare His praises to those around us for all that He has done in us and for us. God wants us blessed, but He also wants us to be thankful.
Today, as you take the time to be with those you love and those who love you, remember all the answered prayers, unexpected blessings, and the favor that you have received from your heavenly Father this year. Now you can go throughout this day with a heart filled with gratitude. After all, isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about?
Happy Thanksgiving from the Dockery’s to you!
